Magid Ensemble Double Feature Live Klezmer Music followed by an immersive storytelling performance.

Personnel: Weaver, writer & storyteller Kiah Raymond, papercut artist & crankie operator Rachel Leader, violin Mattias Kauffman, accordion Raffi Boden, cello

The Magid Ensemble is a multidisciplinary group creating new work that integrates folk art, traditional oral storytelling and original klezmer music.

"Shterna and The Lost Voice" is our first major production and is a collaboration between writer & storyteller Weaver, visual artist Kiah Raymond, fiddler Rachel Leader, cellist Raffi Boden and accordionist Mattias Kaufmann. The performance runs one hour, and features the telling of an original Yiddish folktale, accompanied by a custom-made handcrafted "crankie" (a visual storytelling device) and live klezmer music. We have toured it several times and sold out many shows with some audience members coming back to see it two or three times!

Rachel, Mattias & Raffi have played together for several years, toured internationally and performed and taught at klezmer festivals around the globe. They have collaborated within the bands Mamaliga and the Magid Ensemble. Mamaliga's first album, Dos Gildn Bletl (available on all platforms), won first prize for klezmer composition at the Bubbe Awards.
