Saturday, July 20, 2-3:30 PM: Booksigning and Discussion with Judith Elliot McDonald (Eugene), author of “Feargus.” Feagus is a deeply moving multi-themed literary tale of a beloved, heroic dog, a woman with a dark and joyless history with dogs, and a ruthless feral pack with its own ideas about life and redemption. The Oregon Coast, 1992-2005.
Judith Elliot McDonald was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she studied art and theater. She was transplanted to Oregon many years ago and considers herself an Oregon writer with a ‘back east’ sensibility. Earlier in her career she wrote newspaper and periodical feature articles primarily on travel, the arts and food/restaurant criticism. She continued to work in theater and has been a theater director, teacher, actor, coach and designer. She wrote her first play in 1996. Her award-winning one-act In Juliet’s Garden was published by Samuel French Inc. in 2007. Another of her popular one-acts, Macbeth on CNN, is an entertaining companion piece to In Juliet's Garden. Her latest commission is a two-act contemporary feminist work entitled The Bottom of the Box.
In 2018 she completed a stage adaptation of Jane Kirkpatrick's historical regional best seller A Gathering of Finches, the story of Cassie Stearns Simpson, inspiration for Shore Acres Park. The play is scheduled to have a final workshop session in August of 2020 at Theatre 33 in Salem, Oregon.
